Well, I’ve been a little more than four months officially living in Caracas, Venezuela, and I’m still discovering the city, I’m slowly going out my house and my office. A couple of weeks ago I met in person the girls of Urbanimia, who are doing a wonderful job in teaching us to live and enjoy the city, perfect for a newcomer like me, who has always had reservations regarding Caracas, and it turned out we were more connected than I thought, had seen the project and I had drawn my attention, but until that day had not thought seriously about participating.

And on Saturday I did the route “Small Stories of Sabana Grande”, boulevard of great importance at contemporary Caracas.

The route tell us the story on what was the boulevard on a developmentalist heyday in mid-twentieth century, avant-garde cultural center, evolution, following decay and current recovery of the place.

It was a beautiful morning, I marveled again and again with the tales of the streets and corners, the architecture that still remains, the contrasts between past and present, in an area that is still trying to be a place of recreation, emergence of new trends, now in direct competition with the big malls that invaded the city for already decades.

Sabana Grande is also from my way to see a symbolic passage between two Caracas, a dividing point between east and west, between two ways of thinking and living, between rich and poor, left and right, but I think also a meeting point between a divided city.

I recommend to all of you who can, do the Urbanimia route, and for my part am not going to see Sabana Grande in the same way, and I hope my idea of the city will change in that direction too, is already doing, from now on I signed up for the next tour of Urbanimia to some other point of Caracas.
