Button Factory at “Algún Lado”

A few weeks ago I was for two days taking pictures and recording videos in an artistic intervention of an abandoned buttons factory here in Buenos Aires, a great time, very good artist, very good place, with the best organization of the girls of “Algún Lado“.

Here some of the material of those days.

Casablanca

Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine”.

El Mas Santo en Guanare

photos taken in Guanare, in the plains of Venezuela for the art project El Mas Santo. Thanks to Alexis Ziritt for gift me one of the figures.

The art project it has its origins in Poland, where a young artist has chosen lucha libre as the topic of her work. The idea was to juxtapose the world of Mexican wrestlers with the grey and sad reality of Polish streets. As it happens, the project got out of control. Luchadores figures, which were originally made as part of the diplomma work, started to show up in different, faraway countries. Mind your step because you may meet one of these small warriors someday.

El Perro Tureco stopped at times to pursue the famous “El Silbón”, illustrious character of the Venezuelan imagery to become a representative anthology of Venezuelan  comics, involving the visions of Venezuelan and Latin American artists, cartoonists, designers, and how many people exist within the scope of the construction of images.

Arises again from its founders the need, both as debt themselves, to see published one volume with the honors that he deserves the language of the comic, currently in this tropical land is scarce and thus we to fill this gap in the visual arts and graphics reinforce traditional cultural values that occur in Venezuela.

In short, PT is good to see printed in the mink role of artists and writers participating in it and want to perpetuate the graphic language.

It is an excuse to attract sequential graphic production, writing stories and literature if not enlightened.
Latin America is portraying through the chart.
Is to open a timeless space that allows to talk about what is happening at present.
It is a sort of treaty as a character vital. Is humanity.
Black and white, full machete.
Culture is to look through the comic.

PT now seeks to recover what has been sleeping in our Latin American culture, or as someone said at some point …. a culture indo-european-afro-american…

PT is Comic, and Comic is culture. Is to meet again after so long, joking and kicking ass. Is the use of a particular language, funny words, past tone, strong, heavy… in some ways a tribute to the story with sequential images.

¨We must create a world between two screams.¨
Over and out.

Kumo-Z Rayos Fotonicos

My friend and partner in Zircons, my comrade of many adventures Gustavo Rugeles, has just published its site, Kumo-Z, that I helped to develop.

So far, Kumo-z is a space to show some of Gustavo R. Rugeles G.´s formal works for clients and experimental projects. He is a visual artist proficient in drawing, with knowledge in painting, illustration, photography and motion graphics. He has been attracted to the elements of image construction, consequently, drawing had became his primary language and discipline that he uses to explore the possibilities to define an idea or concept. As a drawer he experience with different graphic techniques such as etching, mezzotint, xylography and experimental. Currently he resides in Beijing – China developing a project about interaction between drawing and painting called ¨Desintegrations¨ that combines fluid charcoal lines with strong acrylics gesture strokes on canvas which focuses in the study of the anatomy of characters. Co-founder of Zircons, an audiovisual arts collective. Currently they are working on a experimental sequential art project called ¨Perro Tureco¨.

Calavera Comics in MoCCA 2008

My friends of Calavera Comics were in the MoCCA Art Festival 2008, where they presented successfully Rudo #1, Rudo: Special Edition and Callinazo #1.

Timothy Callahan comment: Rudo #1, Rudo: Special Edition, and Gallinazo #1, from Calavera Comics. Alexis Ziritt draws like an angry Paul Pope, and the comics from this company are filled with drunken, gun-toting luchadores. Also Zombies and Dodge Chargers. These guys are still young, and they’re producing some cool comics already. I’ll be keeping an eye out for their future projects. Plus, no hentai fans at the table.
