Un cambio importante en mi fotografía fue cuando me mude hace un año de Buenos Aires, donde siempre llevaba conmigo la cámara reflex a donde iba, y publicaba “La Semana en Fotos” sin falta, a Caracas, donde la dinámica de mi trabajo en oficina y mi limitada vida social hicieron que mi cámara principal se convirtiera la del teléfono.
Yo venía usando Instagram desde solo unos días de haber salido la aplicación al aire, me parecía una manera divertida de publicar las fotos del iPhone, y aplicar estos efectos que daban la impresión de ser vintage, que causó muchas críticas en esa época por cierto.
Por bastante tiempo fue solo eso, una manera de ver tus fotitos mejoradas un poco, pero luego lo que más me interesó fue conocer talentosos fotógrafos y ver sus maravillosos trabajos, algunos ya fotógrafos profesionales, otros surgiendo desde el móvil.
Esa mezcla de la limitación de tomar fotos y todo el contenido que estaba viendo, definitivamente hicieron que mi trabajo empezará a evolucionar, que tuviera más cuidado y fuera más selectivo, y con el tiempo, y la ayuda de mis viajes por Venezuela, la curaduría de mi galería dio un salto cualitativo importante.
Y este último mes ha sido una sorpresa para mi, porque todo el trabajo de fotografía que he venido haciendo con mi teléfono ha sido reconocido de diferentes maneras, lo cual es un honor para mí, quién me considero todavía un fotógrafo amateur.

A major change in my photography was when I moved a year ago from Buenos Aires, where I always carried my reflex camera wherever I went, and published “The Week in Pictures” without fail, to Caracas, where the dynamics of my work in office, and my limited social life made that my main camera become the phone.
I had been using Instagram from just a few days after the app become online, it seemed like a fun way to post the pictures of the iPhone, and apply these effects that gave the impression of being vintage, which caused a lot of criticism at the time by the way.
For a long time it was just that, a way to see your shitty pics improved a little, but then what interested me more was to find talented photographers and see their wonderful work, some already professional photographers, others emerging from the mobile.
That mix of the limitation to take photos and all the content I were viewing, definitely made my work will begin to evolve, to be more careful and be more selective, and over time, and the help of my travels in Venezuela, the curatorship on my gallery took a major leap.
And this last month has been a surprise for me, because all the photography work I’ve been doing with my phone has been recognized in different ways, which is an honor for me, who still consider myself an amateur photographer.

El primer reconocimiento ha sido de parte de VSCO, quienes hasta el momento han seleccionado ¡14! de mis imágenes para ser destacadas en su galería principal, la mayoría en las últimas semanas, nunca me canso de leer “your image has been selected for the curated VSCO Grid, a collection of the finest mobile imagery on the internet“, así como dice el titulo de los email, es un honor.
Desde hace un año VSCOcam y VSCOfilm son mis herramientas principales en fotografía, móvil y producción.

The first recognition was on the part of VSCO, who have so far selected 14! of my images to be featured in their main gallery, mostly in the last few weeks, I never tire of reading “your image has been selected for the curated VSCO Grid, a collection of the finest mobile imagery on the internet” and as they say in the title of the email, is an honor.

El segundo reconocimiento vino del Venezuela Móvil Festival, y sus 2do Premio Nacional de Fotografía y Video Móvil, donde me otorgaron una mención honorífica en la categoría #SoyColor, a quienes aprovecho y les doy las gracias por el diploma, otro honor sin duda, también estoy muy agradecido con mi amiga Judith quien me animó a enviar mis fotos y a mi linda roommate Claret quien posó para la foto del diploma.

The second recognition came from the Venezuela Móvil Festival (Venezuela Mobile Festival), and the 2nd National Award for Mobile Photography and Video, which gave me an honorable mention in the category #SoyColor (I’m Color), and I take the opportunity to thank them for the diploma, certainly another honor, also I’m grateful to my friend Jude who encouraged me to send my pictures and to my cute roommate Claret who posed for the diploma picture..vmf
