Hasta hace poco no había notado, conscientemente por lo menos, cuán presente ha estado el color amarillo en mi trabajo fotográfico, creo que lo empecé a notar mucho más durante mi último viaje a China, o siempre lo he notado pero no había atado toda una narrativa, no se, tal vez ahora todo cierra porque estoy haciendo un nuevo post.
Es el primer post del año 2019, todavía el año me parece futurista, ¿qué pensarán los niños sobre el futuro ahora?, ¿cuál será su año distante?, ¿el 2100?, Yo de niño soñaba y me imaginaba muchas cosas, ya desde esa época tenía ideas muy lúgubres sobre cómo sería el futuro, y más o menos acerté.
El amarillo, de niño también pensaba en el amarillo, un día por allá en el año 1989, ¡wow, hace 30 años!, caminaba Yo de vuelta a casa de unas clases de computación donde mis padres me habían inscrito, ya era un niño grande como para caminar solo por la calle, era una tarde de vuelta a casa, y tuve una revelación, el color amarillo seria de gran significancia en mi futuro, y de vez en cuando recuerdo eso, hasta ahora sigo esperando, o lo sigo llamando, inconscientemente.
Pero por más fascinado por Asia que este, Yo soy de este lado del mundo y además estudié artes en este lado del mundo, así que siempre he sido más del color rojo, el color político en que me ha tocado militar, y el más presente en todo mi trabajo gráfico, solo después de estas reflexiones fue que incorpore el amarillo en un próximo proyecto a ser publicado pronto.
Investigando para escribir este post lei algo sobre el color amarillo en la cultura China, Yo y mi fijaciones, en China se dice que el amarillo es el color más bello de todos, genera el Yin y Yang, o sea, es el centro de todas las cosas.
La fotografía ha sido un trabajo más natural, el que me ha devuelto siempre la calma, y ahí es donde está el amarillo.
Acá está el amarillo, una muestra rápida de lo que encontré en mi feed de IG, recuerdos de diferentes épocas, de diferentes viajes, de diferentes memorias, estos últimos 6 años han pasado muchas cosas.

Until recently I had not noticed, consciously at least, how present the yellow color has been in my photographic work, I think I began to notice it much more during my last trip to China, or I have always noticed it but I had not tied it all the narrative, I do not know, maybe now everything closes because I’m making a new post.

The photography has been a more natural work, one that has always given me back the calm, and that’s where the yellow is.

Un sábado temprano en la mañana cuando salía a desayunar me encuentro en la plaza de Taikoo Li Sanlitun 三里屯太古里 a este grupo de chicas bailando, con espectaculares vestidos tradicionales, fue algo muy rápido, apenas me dio tiempo de sacar la cámara, y a los pocos minutos habían empacado y se habían ido, sin tener idea de qué se trataba, pero quedó como uno de los mejores recuerdos que tengo de mi reciente viaje a Beijing, y es siempre una alegría cuando VSCO selecciona alguna de mis fotos para destacar.

En medio de visitas a templos y paseos por los hutongs y el antiguo Beijing está la ciudad actual, el Beijing moderno, la gran arquitectura, los rascacielos, todo el sistema de autopistas, la alta tecnología y la moda, lo que verdaderamente la hace una capital de nivel mundial, es lo que más disfruto y donde paso la mayor parte del tiempo.
Por estos días se celebra el Foro de Cooperación África China, así que hay muchos hermanos y hermanas africanas en las calles, me encanta el saludo que hacemos cuando nos cruzamos, extraños que se reconocen en una tierra lejana.
Creo que lo que me gusta más de Beijing, y de China en general, es la experiencia de estar aislado de todo, por la distancia, por la cultura, por el idioma, y tener esos pequeños momento de conexión me hace darme cuenta de que somos un mismo mundo, algo que se nos escapa de vista tan fácilmente en estos tiempos, es triste me hizo falta viajar tan lejos para encontrarme con la humanidad.
Muchos de los fotógrafos que más admiro son fotógrafos de calle y es uno de los estilos que más sigo, y he tomado algunas de sus técnicas para aplicarlas a la fotografía que me gusta hacer, sin embargo nunca he logrado tener esa cercanía con el sujeto de la calle, algunos intentos hice.
Y caminando la ciudad, en medio de la gente es donde me encuentro más calmado, donde me pierdo en la multitud, en medio de los modernos edificios, las luces, las pantallas, y acá es cuando empiezo a trazar las líneas de lo que serán mis próximas aventuras, me gustarian que continuarán en China, ahora vuelvo ¿a casa?, con objetivos que apenas unas semanas atrás no tenía, vuelvo feliz, extrañando ya a mi hermana, y con la ilusión de volver pronto.

Amidst visits to temples and walks through the hutongs and the ancient Beijing is the current city, the modern Beijing, the great architecture, the skyscrapers, the entire highway system, high technology and fashion, what truly makes it a world-class city, it is what I enjoy the most and where I spend most of my time.
These days the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation is being held, so there are many African brothers and sisters in the streets, I love the nod we make when we meet, strangers who acknowledge themselves in a distant land.
I think that what I like most about Beijing, and China in general, is the experience of being isolated from everything, by distance, by culture, by language, and having those little moments of connection makes me realize that we are the same world, something that escapes us so easily in these times, It’s sad I had to travel so far to find the humanity.
Many of the photographers that I admire most are street photographers, it’s one of the styles that I follow the most, and I have taken some of their techniques to apply them to the photography that I like to do, however I have never managed to have that closeness with the subject of the street, some attempts I made.
And walking the city, in the middle of the people is where I find myself calmer, where I get lost in the crowd, in the middle of the modern buildings, the lights, the screens, and here is when I start to draw the lines of what will be my next adventures, I would like them to continue in China, now I return home, with goals that just a few weeks ago I did not have, I’m happy again, already missing my sister, and with the hope of returning soon.

Llegué a Beijing sin planes, más que celebrar mi cumpleaños 42 acá, de resto solo iba a dejarme llevar por lo días, más siempre tuve en la mente que volvería a algunos sitios que habían sido mis favoritos, entre ellos templos y otros que se me habían escapado.
El día de mi cumpleños mi hermana y Yo salimos temprano a caminar por el centro de Beijing, por la Torre del Tambor y La Campana, Jingshan y los alrededores de La Ciudad Prohibida, un buen comienzo para empezar a empaparme con la zona histórica.

I arrived in Beijing without plans, rather than celebrating my 42nd birthday here, the rest was just going to let me go for the days, however I always had in mind that I would like go back to some places that had been my favorites, among them temples and others that had escaped me.
The day of my birthday my sister and I went out early to walk into Beijing center, through the Drum and Bell Tower, Jingshan and around the Forbidden City, a good start to start dive in the the historical district.

Días después en la primera oportunidad que tuve fui al Templo del Cielo, Tiantan, que sigue siendo mi sitio preferido de Beijing, o por lo menos mi templo preferido.
Por suerte me tocó un lindo día con pocos turistas, aun así hubo gente que quiso que pose para la foto, por supuesto un extranjero de piel oscura con una graciosa barba es algo que muchos chinos consideran tan digno de fotografiar como a la arquitectura, lo que no me molesta, me parece gracioso, y algo incómodo, no soy dado a estar frente a las cámaras, es lo minimo que puedo hacer como invitado en la cultura, y también es parte de la experiencia, para ellos y para mi, si hubo salones a los que entre y estaban completamente solos.
Todo el gigante complejo del templo y sus jardines es una obra maestra, una representación de la cultura china, el sentimiento de asombro acá es comparable con lo que he sentido solo frente a maravillas naturales, lo bueno de ya conocer un lugar tan grande es que puedo tomar un tiempo y solo sentarme a deleitarme con estar ahí.
Y el estar es algo que me cuesta, quiero absorber tanto como pueda y es frecuente que mi mente se pierda en pensamientos, o mejor dicho, se disperse, así que cualquier momento en que pueda conseguir algo de calma lo aprovecho.

Days later at the first opportunity I had I went to the Temple of Heaven, Tiantan, that is still my favorite place in Beijing, or at least my favorite temple.
Luckily I had a nice day with few tourists, even so there were people who wanted me to pose for the photo, of course, a brown foreigner with a funny beard is something that many Chinese consider as worthy of photographing as the architecture, which not It bothers me, I find it funny, and somewhat awkward, I’m not given to being in front of the cameras, it’s the least I can do as a guest in the culture, and it’s also part of the experience, for them and for me, though, there were halls that I entered and I were completely alone.
The whole complex of the temple and its gardens is a masterpiece, a representation of Chinese culture, the feeling of amazement here is comparable to what I have felt just in front of natural wonders, the good thing about knowing such a great place is that I can take some time and just sit down and enjoy being there.
And being is something that is hard for me, I want to absorb as much as I can and it is frequent that my mind gets lost in thoughts, or rather, it disperses, so any time I can get some calm I take advantage of it.

Un lugar perfecto para la calma es el Templo Yonghe, El Palacio de La Paz y La Harmonía, conocido como el Templo Lama, un templo y monasterio de Budismo Tibetano, una sucesión salones con arte budista exquisito, grande estatuas de Budas, decoraciones y demás representaciones de la cosmología del lamaísmo.
Siempre me siento tentado a tomar fotos dentro de los salones, mi instinto de fotógrafo supongo, pero puede más mi respeto al sitio y a sus creencias, prefiero solo sentarme a observar a los devotos rendir tributos frente a los altares, caminar un poco y mezclarme en el ambiente cargado de incienso y tranquilidad.
En los patios interiores si está permitido tomar fotos, reparto el tiempo entre la cámara y las ruedas de oración, al final del día si logro algo de paz y harmonía.
No soy una persona religiosa, no tengo ninguna afiliación a religión o culto, no obstante tengo un profundo respeto por diferentes manifestaciones y filosofías religiosas, me gusta pensar que puedo tomar lo más interesante de cada una, y sentir la espiritualidad que inspira a tanta gente a venir a este templo.
Al salir del templo seguí caminando por la la calle Guozijian, hasta El Templo de Confucio y La Academia Imperial, sigo de largo y prefiero sentarme a comer en un pequeño restaurante en la calle, mientras veo a los maestros llevar a los niños a conocer su historia y conocer las enseñanzas de Confucio, los mismo maestros y niños que han pasado por esta misma calle durante siglos.
El Templo Dongyue es otro sitio interesante y está cerca de donde me estoy quedando, y al llegar no me siento con ánimo de ver deidades y demonios taoístas, seguro vuelvo en otra ocasión.

A perfect place for seek calm is the Yonghe Temple, The Peace and The Harmony Palace, known as the Lama Temple, a temple and monastery of Tibetan Buddhism, a succession of halls with exquisite Buddhist art, large statues of Buddhas, decorations and other representations of Lamaism cosmology.
I always feel tempted to take pictures inside the halls, my photographer instinct I suppose, but it can more my respect the place and its beliefs, I prefer to just sit and watch the devotees pay tribute in front of the altars, walk a little and mix in the atmosphere charged with incense and tranquility.
In the inner courtyards it is allowed to take pictures, I divide the time between the camera and the prayer wheels, at the end of the day I achieve some peace and harmony.
I am not a religious person, I have no affiliation to religion or worship, yet I have a deep respect for the different religious manifestations and philosophies, I like to think that I can take the most interesting of each, and feel the spirituality that inspires so many people to come to this temple.
After leaving the temple, I continued walking along the Guozijian Street, up to The Confucius Temple and the Imperial Academy. I pass by and prefer to sit down to eat in a small restaurant on the street, while I watch the teachers carry the children to know their history and to know the teachings of Confucius, the same teachers and children who have passed through this same street for centuries.
The Dongyue Temple is another interesting place and it’s near to where I’m staying, when I arrive I don’t feel like seeing Taoist deities and demons, I’m sure I’ll come back another time.

El último sitio que visito es el Palacio de Verano, al que nunca había ido por lo lejos que queda, está a las afueras de Beijing, así que me levanto temprano y me embarco en el largo viaje en el subterráneo.
Y valió la pena el recorrido, apenas salgo de la estación estoy en un bosque, no me esperaba el drástico cambio, al principio estoy un poco perdido, y sigo a la gente y llegó a la entrada.
El Palacio de Verano es un gigante complejo de jardines, lagos y palacios, Yo solo logró recorrer La Colina de La Longevidad y las orillas del Lago Kunming, el calor y el esfuerzo de recorrer toda la colina me dejan agotado para seguir al resto de los 3 Kilómetros cuadrados del parque, sin embargo quedó muy satisfechos con lo que veo, de vuelta buscando la salida rodeó la colina y encuentro aún más templos y pequeñs jardines, en un momento me adentro al bosque y me siento a la orilla de uno de los canales por largo rato, es el único sitio en el que voy a estar durante todo el viaje donde no veo edificios ni ninguna otra estructura, solo naturaleza.

The last place I visit is the Summer Palace, which I had never gone to because it is far away, it is just outside Beijing, I wake up early and embark on the long journey in the subway.
And it worth the trip, as soon as I leave the station I’m in a forest, I did not expect the drastic change, at first I’m a little lost, but I follow the people and arrived at the entrance.
The Summer Palace is a giant complex of gardens, lakes and palaces, I only managed to walk the Longevity Hill and the banks of Kunming Lake, the heat and the effort of traveling the whole hill leave me exhausted to continue to the rest of the 3 square kilometers of the park, however I was very satisfied with what I see, back looking for the exit I round the hill and find even more temples and small gardens, at one point I go into the forest and I sit at the shore of one the channels for a long time, is the only place where I will be during the whole trip where I do not see buildings or any other structure, only nature.

A la Ciudad Prohibida la bordeo varias veces, la vi de lejos, de cerca, desde lo alto, pero nunca entró, por restauraciones el número de visitantes está limitado y para conseguir ticket hay que llegar más temprano de lo que estoy dispuesto a levantarme, otra atracción que conozco bien y que volveré en otro viaje.
Creo que las visitas a los templos tuvieron su significado, cumplieron un objetivo, aunque tengo que decir que hay un límite a cuantos edificaciones tradicionales chinas puedes ver en poco tiempo, por eso siempre lo fui alternando con el Beijing moderno, y de eso continuó relatando en el siguiente post de la serie.

En los últimos años la sensación de no pertenecer a ningún sitio han sido lo normal, no quiere decir que la haya pasado mal, el trabajo no me han motivado mucho, sin embargo he podido seguir viajando y siguiendo adelante.
Este 2018 pasé la mitad del año trabajando en Panamá, algo que venía retrasando desde mis días en Nueva York el año pasado, todavía no sé por qué esperé tanto para ir.
Mi tiempo en Ciudad de Panamá fue tranquilo, era lo que necesitaba para aclarar la mente y salir del embotamiento que es pasar mucho tiempo en Guanare, el trabajo no fue tan abundante como esperaba aunque divertido, hasta que la ciudad ya no lo fue.
Así que de un día a otro estoy haciendo maletas y llenando la solicitud de renovación de visa para China, y una semana después estoy en Caracas tomando un vuelo para Beijing.
Exactamente hace tres años estaba haciendo lo mismo (sobre ese viaje escribí extensamente en su momento), esta vez iba solo por pocas semanas, más viajar medio mundo es una experiencia que siempre cambia la vida.
Como dije, he escrito suficiente sobre Beijing y China, no tengo mucho más que agregar, esta vez quiero escribir sobre mi experiencia personal, mi estado emocional y qué me ha dejado para pensar en el futuro.
Lo he dividido en tres post, cada uno con los diferentes aspectos de lo que me gustan más de Beijing.

In recent years the feeling of not belonging to any place have been the normal, doesn’t mean that I had a bad time, the jobs has not motivated me much, but I have been able to continue traveling and moving forward.
This 2018 I spent half of the year working in Panama, something that had been delayed since my days in New York last year, I still do not know why I waited so long for that.
My time in Panama City was calm, it was what I needed to clear my mind and get out of the dullness that is spending a lot of time in Guanare, the work was not as abundant as I expected but fun, until the city itself wasn’t.
So from one day to the next I’m packing and filling out the visa renewal application for China, and a week later I’m in Caracas taking a flight to Beijing.
Exactly three years ago I was doing the same thing (on that trip I wrote extensively at the time), this time was only for a few weeks, however traveling half the world always is a life changing experience.
As I said, I have written enough about Beijing and China, I don’t have much more to add, this time I want to write about my personal journey, my emotional state and what has left me to think about the future.

Lo mejor de este viaje fue ver a mi hermana, ella estaba muy ocupada con su trabajo, sin embargo nunca dejamos de aprovechar sus momentos libres para reunirnos a comer o salir a pasear, y entre tanto me dediqué a deambular por la ciudad.
Por supuesto lo primero que hice fue volver a los Hutongs, caminar entre las callecitas, las construcciones de ladrillos grises, los techos típicos, la mezcla entre el Beijing histórico y el Beijing actual, y pensar en la historia acumulada en estos antiguos vecindarios.
La primera parada es Nanluoguxiang, lo conozco tan bien que no necesito ver el mapa para saber cómo llegar, ha cambiado algo desde la última vez que estuve acá, más comercios modernos, las calles laterales más restauradas, perdió algo de su encanto, más sigo fascinado con todo, estoy de vuelta en una de mis ciudades favoritas, me siento pleno.
Esta vez no vine tanto a conocer como a disfrutar la estadía, camino mucho para sentir la calle, traje mi DSRL grande, y siquiera la sacó de su bolso, solo salgo con mi pequeña Fujifilm, el verano ya está a punto de terminar, el clima está agradable, puede ponerse caliente en la tarde, así que trato de ir más ligero posible, sin apuro ni planes, los días están lindos y cielos inusualmente azules en una de las ciudades más contaminadas del mundo.
Luego de caminar por Qianmen decido no volver por la Plaza Tiananmen y mejor entrar en una calle lateral que me llama la atención, y por ahí me pierdo en una infinidad de Hutongs que no conocía, una zona que antiguamente eran los vecindarios a las afueras de las murallas de Beijing, muy tranquilo, solo veo gente mayor y lindos jardines a la orilla de las callecitas, me encuentro con comunidades musulmanas que están acá desde hace cientos de años.
De ahí camino por un buen rato hasta salir nuevamente a las avenidas, a un lado veo a lo lejos el Templo del Cielo, en mi mente voy armando otra vez un mapa y me recuerda que por más que me aleje de los sitios turísticos he estado limitado a moverme en solo una pequeña parte de la ciudad, mas estos hutong son el gran descubrimiento del día.
Sigo pensando en todo lo que me gustaría seguir explorando y conociendo, y todo el tiempo que tendría que vivir acá para hacerlo, sigo caminando por Chongwenmen, la antigua Legation Quarter, hasta llegar a la ya familiar Wangfujing y tomar el subterráneo a casa.

Something that had been pending of my Study in Motion Design last year was to explore more the use of particles and simulations, I had been seeing very good projects where they made very ingenious use of fluids, volumes and other simulations and I wanted to learn more about the subject .
So that how I learn about SideFX Houdini, a much more versatile software than what I had found so far, and a year later I’m still learning everything of what I can do with it, sometimes so much information and possibilities are overwhelming, but every time I’m more fascinated.
One of the tools that I have been most interested lately is Pyro, it is used to create smoke, fire and explosions, not because it is something that I want to do, but because of the possibilities of using all the data that is created in these simulations to control other animations.
Among the experiments I’m been doing with Houdini are these exercises of “Advect by Volumes”, an easy way to interpret the smoke in fluids and particles, these are some of the results, something simple that I render in Arnold Renderer without many complications, trying to translate the data of the simulations to colors and transparencies, the colors originally were only to differentiate the elements from each other, but ended up being in the final outcome.
This is only a first part of a new study I’m making, a new animation, while I’m still working, and if it doesn’t take me too much time again I will continue publishing more steps of the process.

La mayor parte de mi tiempo en China lo pase en Beijing, una ciudad que para mí concentra todo lo que puedes encontrar en China, por lo menos desde el punto de vista de un viajero extranjero.
Es la China moderna, la gran potencia económica, es la China tradicional, con sus hutongs, es la China clásica, con sus templos y palacios, la Gran Muralla, la Ciudad Prohibida, es la China en constante evolución que hace nuevamente su lugar en el mundo, para coexistir y ayudar.
China ha sido una de las mejores experiencias en mi vida, un sueño del que no quería despertar, un sueño hecho realidad, al que espero volver y seguir descubriendo.

Most of my time in China spend it on Beijing, a city that for me concentrated all you can find in China, at least from the point of view of a foreign traveler.
Is the modern China, the big economic power, is the traditional China, with its hutongs, is the classic China, with its temples and palaces, the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, is the Chinese constantly evolving, making again its place in the world, to coexist and help.
China has been one of the best experiences in my life, a dream of that I did not want to wake up, a dream come true, which I hope to return and continue discovering.
Fui a conocer el mercado de antigüedades de Panjiayuan 潘家园 (qué significa mercado de curiosidades) es un gran sitio de ventas de artesanías y antigüedades, donde se consigue desde una estatua gigante de un león chino o un Buda hasta una pequeña jaula de bambú para tu grillo de la suerte.
Hay ventas de estatuas, muebles tradicionales chinos, libros y rollos de caligrafía, instrumentos musicales, jarrones de cerámica, entre muchos más productos artesanales, el sitio perfecto para comprar souvenirs chinos, y a la salida comí los más deliciosos noodles que probé en China.

I went to visit the antique market Panjiayuan 潘家园 (which means curio market) is a great place of crafts and antiques, where you can get from a giant statue of a chinese lion or a buddha till a tiny bamboo cage for your lucky cricket.
There are sales of statues, traditional chinese furniture, books and calligraphy scrolls, musical instruments, ceramic vases among many handcrafted products, the perfect place to buy Chinese souvenirs, and at the exit I ate the most delicious noodles I tasted in China.

Ya de vuelta a Beijing pude por fin llevar mi DSLR a reparar (un drama que todavía no termina) y ya habiendo terminado mi etapa de viajes y teniendo una mejor idea de mi mis gastos decidí comprar una nueva cámara.
Desde hace tiempo tenía el ojo en una Fujifilm X100T, he escuchado maravillas de esa cámara y se ajusta muy bien a mis necesidades, pero desafortunadamente se salía de mi presupuesto, así que opte por un modelo menos complicado y compre una Fujifilm X30, y no puedo estar más feliz con la elección, una pequeña pero poderosa cámara, con muy buena resolución de imagen y funcionalidad, mi única queja es lo limitada que es en la noche, pero es solo que estoy acostumbrado a mi Canon y su alta sensibilidad y eso sería exigir mucho.

Apenas salí de la tienda ya tenia la cámara alrededor del cuello listo para salir y hacer muchas fotos, así que camine unas calles a un templo taoísta por el que siempre pasaba pero nunca había entrado.
Desde que llegué a China he estado muy concentrado en la filosofía budista, pero también tengo interés en conocer las demás filosofías orientales, y la taoísta es una de las que se asemeja más a mis propias creencias, el universo como un todo y la búsqueda de la armonía con el.
Y esta era la primera vez que visitaba un templo taoísta, el Templo Dongyue 东岳庙, fundado en 1319 y reconstruido varias veces durante las diferentes dinastías que rigieron China, Dongyue significa “Montaña del Este”, está dedicado al Dios del Monte Tai, el monte más al este y sagrado de las Cinco Montañas Sagradas del Taoísmo.
Aunque el Tao no es en sí una deidad o divinidad (es más parecido al concepto budista del karma y el dharma), el taoísmo venera a una gran cantidad de diferentes dioses, y el templo tiene rodeando el patio principal pequeños cuartos donde están en exhibición estatuas de yeso que representan cada uno de los “76 departamentos” del mundo sobrenatural del taoísmo, una compleja colección de dioses, deidades y seres extraordinarios.
Esta fue una gran oportunidad de probar mi nueva cámara y pasar una tarde en paz y armonía con mi alrededor y en este muy especial templo, ver los devotos practicando sus creencias.

Already back to Beijing I could finally take my DSLR to repair (a drama that has not ended yet) and already having done my time traveling and having a better idea of my my expenses I decided to buy a new camera.
I has long had his eye on a Fujifilm X100T, I’ve heard wonders of this camera and fits very well my needs, but unfortunately out of my budget, so I opted for a less complicated model and buy a Fujifilm X30, and I can not be happier with the choice, a small but powerful camera with very good image resolution and functionality, my only complaint is how limited it is at night, but it’s just that I’m used to my Canon and its high sensitivity and that would demand a lot.
I thought about doing a full post about my new camera, but I prefer to concentrate on what I belong and leave the reviews to the experts, here’s a very good one of my favorite YouTube channels: Bigheadtaco Fujifilm X30 Full Review.
I just left the store and already had the camera around my neck, ready to go and do a lot of photos, so I walked a few blocks to a Taoist temple which I always pass by but had never entered.
Since I came to China I have been very focused on Buddhist philosophy, but also I am interested in other Eastern philosophies and Taoist is one that is closer to my own beliefs, the universe as a whole and the search for the harmony with it.
And this was the first time I visited a Taoist temple, the Dongyue Temple 东岳庙, founded in 1319 and rebuilt several times during different dynasties that ruled China, Dongyue means “Eastern Peak”, is dedicated to the God of Mount Tai, the easternmost and holiest of the Five Sacred Mountains of Taoism.
Although the Tao is not in itself a deity or divinity (it is more like the Buddhist concept of karma and dharma), Taoism reveres a lot of different gods, and the temple has surrounding the main courtyard small rooms and each display an ensemble of plaster statues depicting one of the “76 departments” of the Daoist supernatural world, a complex collection of gods, deities and extraordinary beings.
This was a great opportunity to try out my new camera and spend an afternoon in peace and harmony with all my around and in this very special temple.

Por supuesto que La Gran Muralla 万里长城 debe estar en la lista de sitios por visitar en China, es mundialmente famosa y por todos conocida.
Pero debo decir que me sentí un poco decepcionado, es un largo viaje de 2 horas desde la ciudad, cuando llegue subimos en unos pequeños funiculares descubiertos que te dejan en la cima de la montaña donde está la muralla, pero aunque es una impresionante construcción que se pierde por las laderas de las montañas, no es para nada lo grande que me imaginaba.
El clima estaba bastante frío y el viento era fuerte y luego de recorrer un tramo completo no hay mucho más que hacer, así que fue solo una mañana en la que taché algo de mi larga lista de sitios por conocer.
La bajada de la montaña fue muy divertida, nos deslizamos a través de un largo tobogán en una especie de trineos, la mejor manera de bajar.

Of course the Great Wall 万里长城 should be on the list of places to visit in China, it is world famous and well known.
But I must say I was a little disappointed, it is a long journey of 2 hours from the city, when I arrived we got into a small bare funiculars that leave you at the top of the mountain where the wall is, but although it is an impressive construction that lost through the mountainsides, it is not at all that big as I imagined.
The weather was quite cold and the wind was strong and after walk a full stretch there is not much else to do, so it was only one morning when I check out another item of my long list of sites to visit.
The descent was fun, we slipped through a long slide in a sort of sleighs, the best way to get down of the mountain.

Una tarde en una de mis tantas visitas a los Hutongs decidí llegar por Shichahai 什刹海, un parque de lagos al noroeste de la Ciudad Prohibida, a pesar de la temporada el clima estaba agradable y perfecto para caminar.
Shichahai es un complejo gigante, ocupa una gran parte del centro de Beijing, en el hay varios templos budistas y taoísta, así como algunas antiguas mansiones reales.
One afternoon in one of my many visits to the Hutongs I decided get by Shichahai 什刹海, a park of lakes at the northwest of the Forbidden City, despite the season the weather was nice and perfect for walking.
Shichahai is a giant complex, occupies a large of the center of Beijing, in it are several Buddhist and Taoist temples, and some ancient royal mansions.
I took the north road for the Qianhai Lake 前海, which led me directly to the Bell Tower and from there to Nanluoguxiang.

La Ciudad Prohibida 紫禁城 fue el palacio imperial chino por más de 500 años, es un sitio impresionante desde la entrada en la Plaza Tiananmen, donde la gente entra tocando las esferas del decorado de las grandes puertas (para la buena suerte), hasta el final del recorrido del gigantesco complejo, pensé que ya a este punto iba a estar cansado, o habituado mejor dicho, de la arquitectura clásica china, pero este sitio está hecho a una escala tan grande que todo es diferente.
A pesar de la multitud de visitantes, sobre todo este día, nunca me sentí saturado de gente, al contrario la inmensidad del sitio hizo que me sintiera abrumado, e imaginar que todo esto estaba dedicado a la vida de una sola persona.
Fue uno de los mejores sitios en los que he estado en China y no debí haber esperado tanto en visitarlo.

The Forbidden City 紫禁城 was the Chinese imperial palace for over 500 years, it is an impressive site, from the entrance in Tiananmen Square, where the people enter touching the spheres of the decorated on the large doors, until the end of the tour of the giant complex, I thought that by this point I would be tired, or habituated better said, of the classical Chinese architecture, but this place it was made on such a large scale that everything is different.
Despite the crowds of visitors, especially this day, I never felt saturated with people, the contrary, the vastness of the place made me feel overwhelmed, and imagine that all this was dedicated to the life of one person.
It was one of the best places I’ve been in China and I should not have waited so long to visit.

No fue hasta tiempo después que aprovechando el día libre de mi hermana, que nos fuimos muy temprano decididos a pasar el día en el centro de la ciudad.
Era primero de Octubre, Día Nacional de China 国庆节, que celebra la fundación de la República Popular y el inicio de las vacaciones, y no pudo ser mejor día para visitar la plaza, que es el centro de las celebraciones.
Como era de esperarse la plaza estaba muy llena de gente, fue un poco complicado el acceso por las medidas de seguridad, pero logramos entrar y disfrutar este muy lindo día con soleado e inusual cielo azul (algo casi inexistente en la muy contaminada Beijing).
Me encanto ver a toda la gente celebrando con orgullo su día nacional, los niños con sus pequeñas banderas, los ornamentos florales, todos los edificios con sus muchas banderas ondeando, los soldados impecables e impasibles, muy buena antesala para entrar a la Ciudad Prohibida, en un próximo post escribiré sobre esa experiencia.
It was not until later on my sister day off, that we decided to try again, we left very early determined to spend the day in the center of the city.
It was the first of October, China’s National Day 国庆节, which celebrates the founding of the People’s Republic and the beginning of the holidays and could not be better day to visit the square, which is the center of the celebrations.
As expected the square was very crowded, it was a bit complicated accessing for the security measures, but we managed to get in and enjoy this beautiful day with a sunny and unusual blue sky (something almost nonexistent in the heavily polluted Beijing).
I loved seeing all the people proudly celebrating their national day, children with their little flags, the floral ornaments, all the buildings with its many flags waving, impeccable and impassive soldiers, very good prelude to enter the Forbidden City, in an next post I will write about that experience.

Los rollos que tomé en Xi’an han sido los que más sucios y rayones han tenido, ha sido parte del proceso de aprender a tomar fotos en film escoger buenos laboratorios y conocer que que puede dar cada tipo diferente de film.
No estaba seguro de si publicar estas fotos por la pobre calidad, pero que creo que a la final tienen cierto valor estético, más no tanto fotográfico, y sirve como un registro de mi progreso en la fotografía.

The rolls I took in Xi’an have been the dirtiest and scratches that have had, has been part of the process of learning to take pictures in film to choose good laboratories and know what can reach each different type of film.
I was not sure whether to publish these pictures for the poor quality, but I think at the end they have some aesthetic value, not so much photographic, but serves as a register of my progress in photography.

De lo primero que vi al llegar a Xi’an fue la Muralla 西安城墙 que encierra el centro de la ciudad, entré por la Puerta Norte, y luego de un recorrido a través de la ciudad en el taxi llegue a la Puerta Sur, justo donde está mi hotel.
Varios días cuando caminaba por Xi’an quise visitar la muralla, pero siempre me entretenía en otro sitio, no fue sino hasta el último día en la ciudad que me levante temprano y entre a la fortificación de la Puerta Sur y subí a la muralla.
La Muralla de Xi’an es una de las más antiguas y la mejor conservada muralla de una ciudad en toda China, la primera versión fue construida hace 2.000 años y fue evolucionando hasta la que existe en actualmente que data del año 1370, construida por la Dinastía Ming 明朝.
La muralla encierra la ciudad interior, unos 25 Km2 y recorre 14 Km, sobre ella hay diferentes fortificaciones, torretas de vigilancia, rampas para acceder a la ciudad, un museo dentro del mismo muro donde hay una excavación con restos muy bien conservados de la primera muralla, hay servicios de alquiler de bicicletas y dar una vuelta es la mejor manera y la mejor vista para apreciar la ciudad, por la parte exterior está rodeada de un foso hecho del desvío de un río, que es un gran parque con diferentes edificaciones.
Es una de las construcciones más hermosas en las que he estado, me transporte a otra época, era un día bastante frío y nublado (¿contaminado?), pero fue la mejor manera de despedirme de la ciudad, para mi la mejor sorpresa de mi gran viaje por China, un destino al que seguro voy a volver.

Many days when I walked through Xi’an I wanted to visit the City Wall 西安城墙, but I always entertained elsewhere, it was not until the last day in town that I wake up early and enter the fortification of the South Gate and went up to the wall.
The Wall of Xi’an is one of the oldest and best preserved city walls across China, the first version was built 2,000 years ago and evolved to that exists today that dates back to 1370, built by the Ming Dynasty 明朝.
The wall encloses the inner city, about 25 Km2 and covers 14 Km, on it there are different fortifications, watchtowers, ramps to access the city, a museum within the same wall, where there is an excavation with the well preserved remains of the first wall, are too a services of bike rental, a ride is the best way and the best view to appreciate the city, the outside is surrounded by a ditch made of diversion of a river, which is a large park with various buildings.
It is one of the most beautiful constructions in which I have been, I was transported to another time, it was a pretty cold and cloudy (contaminated?) day, but was the best way to say goodbye to the city, for me the best surprise of my great China trip, a destination to which I will return for sure.
