I’ve always been a obsessed music collector, when I discover something new I have to have it, and all the music related, has always been that way, from recording cassettes, buying CD’s, and then burning them, until the great rise of Napster, which changed everything. Music as happens to all, we relate to the events our lives, memories, much like a soundtrack of the day for those who can not stop listening to music.

Early in the decade of 2.000 while studying in Mérida, Venezuela, I was very involved with techno, already had spent the 90’s discovering electronic music, from the industrial rock (Nine Inch Nails, Skinny Puppy, Einstürzende Neubauten), to the most mainstream (The Chemical Brothers, Underworld, The Crystal Method), but at the 2.000 had a good collection of Minimal Techno, House and Electro, was a fan of german labels Kompakt, Traum Schallplatten, Shitkatapult to name a few. It was a time where music was part of the social life, I had many musicians friends with whom I met often, and between music and software exchange I had no choice but to start mixing and after DJing.

The first events where I participate as a DJ, was a partys organized every Thursday by my good friend of Los Andes Electrónicos, parties at friends’ houses, some bars and some other bigger event in Merida. It was an incredible way to drain all the information and music that had, was very relaxing, I always went into a real trance.

A couple of years later I moved of Merida and went to spend some time in San Francisco, California, and there living with my other good friend Wax, we star mixed together at home, in a sushi bar, in a bus that ran through the city, and every party we arrived, we were leaving the house always with computers and equipment to play on any site. It was an incredible time, I knew personally many musicians who I greatly admired, San Francisco was in a circuit of labels, so I could see almost weekly the best of techno that came from Germany and Detroit.

By having such a good reception with my DJing, thought of doing a little more seriously, and using the name of Periodic Müsik, along with Wax, we made a netlabel called Monotono Records, where we upload the music that we and our friends made, to download for free, which was quite successful, releasing more than 25 online albums. I was getting more into the world of netlabels, finding amazing things, to the point that no longer download any other music that was not of netlabels. As an open community it was easy make contacts with other musicians and share ideas, projects and collaborations.

Back in Venezuela, living in Caracas had none opportunity to mix in any place, local circuits worked in a very close way and there was really no spaces for the kind of music I was doing. So to keep the practice started doing weekly mix’s in my house and spread through the internet, even I made a site: periodicmusikmix.com, where I upload all I was doing, my daily practices and weekly mix’s, was very fun, but was a labor intensive exercise and I had a lot of work on my facet of arts, so I stopped working on the site, and then I stop mixing and DJing.

But it was a good thing, made me expand my musical horizons much more, my passion with the music and always looking for new things brought me to know the most varied genres, discover too mush music, I refined my tastes.

As the years passed, my library was increased in a way that I had to create a method to always be listening to music while was coming, because there were things that could pass and never be heard without realizing it.

In my last trip to San Francisco I met Feven and their exotic musical tastes, and began an exchange of music, more than music, data, names and places, and I took the habit of almost daily send her a music file and at weekend make a playlist with all the shared in the week, was also a way to be aware of what I was hearing, we were doing this for a year and a half, but as always, come up other things that distract the attention and we were leaving the exchange.

But I discovered that it was a habit I could not stop it, and started sending the files again, but this time to more people I knew who had good taste in music, no one would pay to much attention, except for Annie that always asked me for music, and started again making the playlist, collecting music during the week and every Saturday sending the list.

And gradually I was adding friends to my newsletter who were searching for music, and finally discovered the 8Tracks  and decided to activate the site periodicmusikmix.com and diffuse all the music I have.
