Superman & Lois

Over the past few years, I’ve had one of the most interesting jobs of my life, and also one of the most unexpected.

At the end of 2021, just as the pandemic and my lockdown were coming to an end, my good friend Héctor Gil from Estudio Térmica contacted me to recommend me to a VFX and post-production studio for film and television, with offices in Mexico and Canada. They were looking for someone with my background to work on simulations.

I started working with them almost immediately, and within a short time I was fully integrated into their production pipeline. Because of my NDA, I can’t talk much about the projects or the work I did, but now that my contract has come to an end —during a period when the writers’ and actors’ strikes brought much of the Hollywood industry to a standstill— I can finally talk a little about one of the projects I worked on the most: Superman & Lois, Seasons 2 and 3.

My main responsibility was creating the simulations for Superman’s cape throughout both seasons, but I also worked on many other types of effects and simulations: space portals, laser beams, destruction, different types of cloth simulations, and many other things.

It was an incredibly rewarding experience to work on so many shows and films, become part of a professional VFX production pipeline, and eventually see my work on the big screen. But most of all, it was very special to see my work in one of my favorite superhero shows, featuring one of my favorite characters.

It’s a shame that this chapter has come to an end, but I’m left with an amazing memory and an experience that definitely became an important part of my career.
